I rely on the Keyboard Shortcuts on my iPad and iPhone every single day. When they don’t work, it’s a major catastrophe for me. People stare at me while I madly re-type acronyms over and over, in the hope that the words and sentences that usually appear will start working again.
Have your iPhone or iPad keyboard shortcuts stopped working?
This happened to me right after upgrading to iOS 8. As I mentioned, I use the keyboard shortcut function many times a day. For me, it’s a throw back to my Blackberry days when I had every conceivable shortcut you could think of, pre-programmed. From email signatures, to complete letters, I had my “AutoText” — as it’s called on a Blackberry — filled with shortcuts that saved me hours and hours of time. When you use Keyboard Shortcuts as much as I do, it’s a real pain in the butt when they don’t work.
After much searching on the internet for a fix and then trying all the fixes suggested, I still couldn’t get my Shortcuts to work. On the verge of giving up and at the same time, cursing Apple for the 35th time, I tried one last thing and ended up finding the fix. Completely by accident of course:)
Here’s what to do to get your keyboard shortcuts working again…
- Sign out of iCloud – Settings > iCloud > Scroll right to the bottom > Click “Sign Out”
- Sign back into iCloud
- Add a new shortcut – This can be anything, you just need to add one new shortcut
- Get yourself out of settings.
That’s all you have to do. Now open your “Notes” App and try typing any shortcut.
If you know somebody who is suffering from “Keyboard Shortcut” withdrawal, please share this post with them. You’ll have a friend for life:)
